What is Onwards?

Onwards is a work in progress!

Originally designed for a university assignment, it is now launching gently. Led by a careers advisor, we aim to help teenagers aged 13-17 looking for opportunities in their local area. No more trawling multiple websites, relying on friends and family for contacts, or facing dodgy employers.

But why a new website? Social media might become restricted for teenagers, and we acknowledge that parents, teachers and careers advisors also want access to this information. Not limiting our service to particular platforms seems best for now.

Our plans include:

• Carefully chosen part-time jobs with detailed listings that include

  specific times, precise pay rates, accurate locations, clothing requirements, and training offered.

  
  

• Volunteering opportunities, just as important as paid work. Similarly, these will be curated to ensure their suitability for teenagers.

• Recommended work experience providers.

• Hobbies such as Cadets, Guides and Scouts, music, theatre, art and sport. All excellent ways to develop skills, make friends and grow as a person.

  
  

  Even more so if you haven't yet found your tribe.

  
  

• Again, details are important: timings, cost, location, age ranges.

For now, some of the information on here may seem rather generic. That is intentional, but it will progress towards locality-specific. We plan to have a postcode search available, so you can filter accurately by distance, and Google Maps embedded. Such facilities will require further investment of time and money.
